Haven't made a texty post in a while...
I just watched Pixar's Up and Disney's Princess & the Frog teasers.
I also read a lot of comments people had about them and the big animation studios in general. Anyway it's getting me to think out loud here, hence the title.
Generally speaking, I like Pixar and I like Disney. I like original euro stuff like Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis and Jamie Hewlett's Gorillaz videos. I like Studio Ghibli and I like Studio 4C. I also like typical American Indy movies like Garden State, Saved!, Juno and Rocket Science. I like Genndy Tartakovsky's ultra designy toons and I like John K's wacked-out super toons and I like Jennifer Pertsch and Tom McGillis' bubblegum pop show 6Teen. Though I'm never sure I'm quite grasping his work, I do like David Lynch films. and I like Christopher Nolan's work, Richard Linklater's, Stanley Kubrick's, Guillermo Del Toro's, Tim Burton's, Alfonso CuarĂ³n's, Danny Boyle's and a golf course full of other directors, artists and studios.
Everybody has different opinions and different tastes, and although I do dislike certain things (what immediately comes to mind now is films and TV series that rely entirely on pop culture references), I feel like I like a lot of work that almost contradict each other. It's like, most of the people that like a certain kind of movie, won't like another. But I most often do. I'm pretty sure I understand WHY I like all these things, so I'm not like children who usually seem to just blurt out that they like everything without really thinking about it or knowing why.
As far as movies go, how many people like The Fountain, Spider-Man, The Lost World and Before Sunrise on approximately the same level (a likeable level)?
Does anyone else get this feeling?
I spoke mostly about movies here, but this goes for drawing/painting looks as well. I like everything dammit! Like, WHAT DO I DO?!

dude I'm the same way. I love all sorts of cartoons and films (though i really dont watch enough films) same goes for music too. I think its good to like different things, makes you a bit more well rounded. Personally I think it's kinda annoying when someone likes one genre of someting and says they hate everything else, seems a little silly to be honest, unless you have a good reason for hating it haha.
haha..you don't do anything man. Thats completely normal. And obviously you prefer some things over others. Everyone does to some extent.
just keep on keepin on.
oh yeah! DONT FORGET MY MIYAZAKI POSTERS mon ami.
yeah it just means you have a broad appreciation in things. You look at work objectively, without trying to apply some concept or structure of what a film 'should' be, rather looking at it on an individual basis (haha I'm sounding like a horoscope) which is really a quality more people should have. So in other words you're not film-racist (a genrist? who knows..).
It's how I can go from the epic/cinematic..ness of Halo 3 to the charming simplicity of 8-bit Super Mario Bros. in a single sitting (to use a recent example).
